Type: Cafe – Bistro – Brunch / Contemporary Traditional Vietnamese Architectural Space
Thìlà Cafe & Bistro is not simply a cafe with a beautiful space. It is an architectural work with a real theme and cultural depth, designed with a clear goal: to recreate the spirit of traditional Vietnamese architecture in a contemporary form, right in the heart of the most modern city in Central Vietnam.
The name Thìlà – simple, familiar, and distinctly Vietnamese – perfectly reflects the philosophy of this space: not trying to be something foreign, but choosing to tell familiar stories in a new language.
The cafe is located at 465–467 Tran Hung Dao, one of the most beautiful streets in Da Nang running along the Han River – a location that is both central, picturesque, and conveniently accessible from all areas of the city.
This is the first element that makes Thìlà stand out completely from other cafes in Da Nang.
The design inspiration is drawn from two architectural icons of Central Vietnam:
Hue-style houses – with their double-layered curved tile roofs, traditional wooden structures, balanced spatial proportions, and depth.
Hoi An-style townhouses – with their vertical floor plan organization, courtyards, and light filtering through the roof.
Notably, the chosen materials all evoke distinct Vietnamese cultural memories:
Straw-mixed plaster walls – a traditional material creating a rough, warm, and natural surface.
Cement tile and polished stone floors – reminiscent of ancient houses in Central Vietnam.
Lamps made from dó paper – a traditional Vietnamese handcrafted paper, originally used in calligraphy and folk paintings, now reborn as a sophisticated and warm lighting system.
Earthy brown and warm yellow tones – the main colors create a nostalgic yet modern feel.
Spatial layout by floor:
Floor 1: Open bistro and café area, directly connected to the indoor garden – airy, close to nature, perfect for mornings and... Lunch
2nd Floor: A more private, quiet dining space, ideal for working or small group meetings.
The result is a space that is both historically significant and extremely photogenic – every corner of the cafe is photogenic without effort.
It operates as a true cafe + bistro – meaning not only drinks but also a full food menu suitable for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner.
Drinks:
Traditional Vietnamese coffee (coffee with milk, black coffee)
Italian coffee (espresso, cappuccino, latte)
Tiramisu coffee – frequently mentioned in reviews
Fruit tea, smoothies, fresh juices
Dairy-free options suitable for vegetarians
Cost: 30,000 VND – 80,000 VND
Food – Brunch & Bistro:
Eggs Benedict – a professionally prepared European brunch
Sandwiches, pan-fried bread
Various types of omelets
Creatively combined Vietnamese light dishes
Traditional Vietnamese cuisine and international dishes
Year: 60,000 VND – 120,000 VND
Note: Menu changes seasonally, and the restaurant is decorated according to holiday themes – creating new photo opportunities throughout the year.
Looking from Tran Hung Dao Street, Thila immediately impresses with its nostalgic facade featuring two layers of curved tile roofs – characteristic of Hue's traditional houses – standing out amidst the surrounding modern buildings. This is the kind of exterior you'll stop to admire, even if you don't intend to go inside.
Stepping through the door is like entering a completely different world: the atmosphere slows down, the light becomes warmer and softer thanks to the traditional Vietnamese paper lamps, and the scent of wood and the garden air inside blend together to create an indescribable sense of peace.
Many cafes in Da Nang are praised for their "beautiful spaces" – but Thila's beauty has its own depth. This isn't a space decorated for the sake of it; it's a seriously implemented architectural thesis: how to recreate the soul of Vietnam in a modern urban building?
Thìlà's answer is: no need to copy verbatim, just distill the spirit. The curved tiled roof evokes Hue but doesn't make you feel like you're in a museum. The rough yet warm straw plaster walls. The dim yet sophisticated paper lanterns. Everything blends together to create a feeling that is both familiar and strange – the very feeling that the best contemporary architecture provides.
This is also why Thìlà was featured in Vietnam Architecture Magazine and received much attention from the architecture community, not just the food & beverage community.
The short answer: mostly yes, with a few caveats.
The obvious strength is the food. The brunch at Thìlà is highly rated – the Eggs Benedict are expertly made, the pan-fried bread is fragrant and hearty, and the creative Vietnamese dishes have their own unique touches. The ingredients are fresh, the presentation is beautiful, and it's worth the price.
Drinks are good to good - rich Vietnamese coffee, tiramisu coffee is a dish that many people mention. Some reviews mention that the drinks are not the shop's strongest point, but overall they still meet expectations.
The price range is mid-high (30k–120k) but suitable for the quality of space and food here - especially when compared to equivalent bistros in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, Thila is still very reasonable.
Service
This is a consistent plus point in most reviews about Dill. The staff are friendly, professional and proactive in giving advice - something that is not always found in crowded restaurants. Even during peak hours, service speed is still kept at an acceptable level.
Notable point: staff are willing to adjust taste according to each guest's request - demonstrating their focus on a personalized experience, not just serving according to a rigid process.

Conclusion – Should You Visit?
Absolutely worth a visit, especially if you:
Love the architecture and spaces with stories
Find a quality brunch restaurant in the true sense, not just "beautiful to take pictures of"
Need a polite, impressive meeting place to meet a partner or go on a date
Want to experience something both Vietnamese and contemporary in the heart of Da Nang
Thila Cafe & Bistro is one of the few cafes in Da Nang where the architecture is not just the backdrop for the drinks – but the character itself. A space created from respect for cultural heritage, with a subtle enough expression that does not feel heavy or intentional. It's rare, and worth visiting at least once.
